The cat goddess Bastet represents protection, fertility and motherhood.

In ancient Egypt, cats are held in the highest esteem.  The penalties for injuring or killing a cat were severe.

This was the goddess of the rising sun.  Bastet was known as the giver of blessings.  Cats were seen as valued members of the family.
